Annual internship (HBO learning year 3) 2023-2024: School social worker MBO education

Looking for a challenge at the intersection of education and care? Are you someone who is curious and wants to engage with students with additional care needs? Then we are looking for you!   

Kern Social Services is an approachable organization that provides school social work (SMW), among other services. This is a specialized form of social work. 
From the team of school social workers, you will work on MBO Schools in Zwolle with the target group of students ages 16 and up.  

What will you do?  
In essence, the school social worker promotes the social-emotional development and independent functioning of students by solving, alleviating or making manageable psychosocial problems that hinder the student's learning process and social participation. As a school social worker, you are part of the care structure within a school.  

You are present at a school for a number of fixed hours. You offer support and advice to students and teachers. As a school social worker you consult with teachers, the care team, parents and network partners and you are the bridge towards external assistance. You are proactive and ensure visibility of the SMW within the school, so that your colleagues know how to find you. 

When necessary, you provide training for educational professionals, parents and students. You have extensive knowledge of what concerns young people and have the independence to navigate well both inside and outside the school walls.  
You will be added to our team of school social workers with whom you will have regular work meetings and peer review. 

As a school social worker you have strong and tactical communication skills, you have knowledge of the environment of young people, you are committed and have a high degree of empathy. In addition, you get a lot of freedom. This also means that you can work independently and can switch well within the various aspects of the work. 

Are you a Social worker who: 

• The HBO program in Social Work follows  
• Has knowledge of the living environment of young people
• Has good communication skills, integrity and a high degree of independence
• Has experience and affinity in working with young people
• Has a flexible, positive and pro-active work attitude
• Has an outreach approach, dares to approach a young person and can turn resistance around and convert it into concrete actions 
• Possesses analytical skills for translating a request for help into an assistance plan
• Is resistant to stress and has improvisational skills. This is required among other things when intervening in crisis situations.

This is what you can expect from us 
We offer a year-long internship at an MBO school in Zwolle in a team where you will be warmly welcomed. 
The internship period begins in September 2023 through July 2024. 
There is an internship stipend.

Interviews will be held at Monday morning, March 20 2023 at Deltion College, Mozartlaan 15, 8031 AA Zwolle.
