Internship Description

Are you an enthusiastic and creative tackler, want to gain experience in project development, organizing events and are you looking for an internship with great social impact? Then come work as an intern at Justice & Peace's Migration & Human Rights Program!

We are looking for a:

Migration & Human Rights intern (Move 4 Human Rights)

32 hours per week
Start date: as soon as possible / by September 2024
Period: +/- 6 months (until February 2025)

Within our Migration & Human Rights program, we have a long track record of lobbying, interventions and projects to improve the rights of refugees. In recent years, we have focused here on making local solidarity with refugees visible and stronger. In 2019, we launched the first "community sponsorship model" in the Netherlands. Together Here wants refugees to be able to (continue to) come to the Netherlands through safe routes and is building a movement in several Dutch cities and towns in which citizens are taking on a major role in contributing to this.

To include youth and students in this process, we have developed an MDT track called Move 4 Human Rights, focused on the topic of Migration and Asylum Policy in the Netherlands. This traineeship is designed to help young people develop themselves and contribute to society. Justice & Peace wants to actively involve young people in the struggle for a more welcoming society for newcomers. You will help develop and evaluate Move 4 Human Rights, and organize events to mobilize youth and educational institutions to create safe routes for migration.

Activities:

  • You will work to develop and implement Move 4 Human Rights by helping to think about how young people can get actively involved, as well as identifying what appeals to young people to participate;
  • You will develop and update relevant workshop materials and tool-kits to benefit the Move 4 Human Rights. You will also develop materials, such as flyers and fact-sheets, to reach a wider audience;
  • You (co-)supervise young people in groups to carry out their projects;
  • You will be co-responsible for the administrative process of recruiting and conducting intakes with youth;
  • You will participate in the monitoring and evaluation of our activities, which will include conducting interviews and writing an evaluation report;
  • You are co-responsible for organizing the end of traineeship events and other community building events for young people;
  • You will support the program team in organizing a multi-day international symposium on student sponsorship in the Netherlands;
  • You will collect and create relevant content (copywriting) about Move4HumanRights for social media, newsletters, interviews, reports, flyers and advertisements. For this you will work with our communications team;
  • You will be involved in the entire program and think with the migration team about opportunities to involve young people in our activities.

We are looking for candidates with the following competencies and background:

  • At least third-year college/university student in relevant program (such as Migration Studies, Social Sciences, Social Work, Public Administration, Law, Media/Communications(-science), Journalism or Event Management);
  • You have excellent Dutch and good English language skills (spoken and written);
  • You enjoy developing workshops or teaching materials and enjoy speaking in front of groups and leading discussions;
  • You enjoy approaching new people and have affinity and experience with organizing different types of events. You know how to connect people and create brand awareness in creative ways;
  • You are adept at creating and writing different types of content for a wider audience, for example, in addition to social media content, you can develop informative flyers or provide input for articles;
  • You are interested in Justice & Peace's work, youth mobilization and migration issues in particular;
  • You bring energy, initiative and enthusiasm; you enjoy working on new things and can work well independently.

We offer you:

  • An internship stipend of €500 gross per month (based on 36 hours);
  • Full travel reimbursement (2e class);
  • A workplace at our office in The Hague city center;
  • Internship supervision by a Justice & Peace program officer;
  • Good working atmosphere in a small team where hard work and fun go hand-in-hand;
  • Opportunity to learn about the many organizations and people working for refugees and human rights.
